I first saw Larry Penguin in the intro to one of the Neoproto movies; Some Kinda Life I think it was. He had that backside 180 5050 and the back tail 270. Those two shots were arguably the best rail shots in the whole movie. Since then he’s had our favorite pros shaking in their seats for years. He’s a considerably bolder name on the map these days and I don’t think his name is gonna smudge off anytime soon.

Where are you at these days?

Laurent: Home in Quebec.

What are you doing there?

Laurent: Right now I have a pretty bad cold, so I’m trying to get over that, but I’ve been skateboarding and hanging out with friends.

Bad cold? Have you been blowing your snot on your blankets, pets, friends, etc?

Laurent: Haha! Mostly in the trash can has much as can! Little on my sleeve.

Taking a break from filming? Double flipping hardflips?

Laurent: Haha yeah, got some new flatground tricks..pretty hype. Yeah, kinda need a break so next time I get on my board my mind will be able to think of new stuff to do… you know… clear mind work better I think.

Yeah, and you need to enjoy yourself. But more importantly, what new flatground tricks do you got going?

Laurent: Hard double flips, got switch hardflip, switch heel shove, almost got nollie double and switch double… still have to practice those two… oh and I got Chris Cole tricks too, bs heel body varial, the one he does down the double set in the Fallen vid.

Oh yeah, I know that one. Dang fool, that’s heavy. Got any snowboard trips on the horizon? Or just winging it?

Laurent: I dunno, it’s always a mystery you know, maybe Whistler with the Grass crew or a trip across Canada with Rome… I don’t know, it’s always last minutes deal. Right now it’s just mellow time I guess and then it gonna get crazy pretty soon traveling and stuff.

How has Videograss been going so far this year?

Laurent: Pretty good, one of the best crew ever for sure, just a big crew of friend… it’s mellow too, we got some serious stuff from everybody I’m hype… can t wait to see the movie… filming is not done too so it’s probably gonna be awesome!

Who have you been taking trips with mostly this year?

Laurent: Nick (Dirks), Louif (Paradis), Ben (Bilocq), Jonas (Michilot), Alex (Cantin), Jan (Snarski), Justin (Meyer). Keagan (Vailaka) too.

I was talking to Louie Paradise this summer and he was telling me that your local resort stopped making jumps, was that some sort of lie?

Laurent: No, it’s true. Because a skier got hurt really bad and they didn’t wanted to deal with all the problem with jumps measurement and stuff so they just don’t have jumps anymore… stupid.

That is brutal, so now you can only do your 900s on flatground?

Laurent: Yep… or on a box. They have super long boxes.

Like 100 footers?

Laurent: No… but they have a 200 foot flat bar, hahaha! If you get to the end it’s world record. Haha… so dumb.

Really a 200 foot flatbar? Wow. I don’t even know what to say. Have you ever tried it?

Laurent: No way! If you try it you miss like 3 rails that are next to it… there is no way you get to the end anyway.

Laurent: Yeah right, hahaha! Like a noseslide to board and you end it on you tail. Haha!

I’d set it on fire and boardslide it right between my feet. Ok, I’m done with that rail. I just find it fascinating. So what is your favorite trick these days?

Laurent: Woa! Hard one.

Laurent: I dunno, I don’t think I have a favorite trick… just riding the shred stick is cool!

If we did a demo at Bear Mountain would you come?

Laurent: Yeah for sure… can snowboarding do a demo though? Probably.

Maybe we’ll find out? How cold is it in Quebec right now?

Laurent: Not too bad, it’s like minus 10 maybe 15 Celsius. We got like two snow storms this week.

Is Quebec buried like it was last year?

Laurent: Not really but pretty close, last year was insane.

Is it crazy to be able to snowboard and travel with your best friend? (Laurent and Ben Bilocq have known each other since pre-school)

Laurent: Yeah got super lucky for sure, but you know, you make friend along the way too. I didn’t know Nick and just hung out with him in salt lake and got into crazy thing… like cool stuff. Now we’re pretty good friends.

Yeah you guys got a couple of tattoos together, what did you guys get?

Laurent: We got one together, that was also my first… he got a Day of the Dead skull and I got a gypsy girl on my left forearm.

When we were at SIA he told Louie and I that you got another?

Laurent: Yeah then I came back to Quebec and my friend who’s older, that I use to snowboard with is a tattoo artist… so I got a sweet pirate ship.
